Encouragement Does Not Require Convincing

Are your words supporting people, or steering them?

I've spent much of my life offering solutions.

Not because I wanted control.

Because I genuinely wanted to help.

The challenge is that not everyone needs a solution.

Sometimes they need support.

Sometimes they need space.

Sometimes they need to arrive at the answer on their own.

Growth has taught me that encouragement and convincing are not the same thing.

Encouragement says:

"I believe in you."

Convincing says:

"I need you to see it my way."

One builds confidence.

The other creates dependency.

One respects autonomy.

The other assumes responsibility for someone else's decision.

As I continue to grow, I'm learning that my words don't always need to change someone's mind.

Sometimes my words simply need to remind them of their strength.
