Who Benefits From Your Performance?
Share
If nobody applauded, would you still do it?
For a long time, I thought performance only belonged on a stage.
Then I realized many of us perform every day.
We perform competency.
We perform confidence.
We perform success.
We perform strength.
Not because we're dishonest.
But because we've learned that certain versions of ourselves receive more acceptance than others.
The problem isn't excellence.
The problem is exhaustion.
When performance becomes your identity, rest starts to feel irresponsible.
Mistakes feel personal.
And every accomplishment becomes a requirement to maintain.
Eventually, you begin asking a different question.
Who is benefiting from this performance?
Sometimes the answer is obvious.
Sometimes the answer is uncomfortable.
Growth has taught me that my value does not increase when I overperform.
My value already exists.
The performance simply made it easier for other people to see.
And those are not the same thing.
Reflection Question
What would change if you trusted your value without needing to prove it?
Scripture
Matthew 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
